Let’s start with the best

87th Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals
87th Annual Academy Awards  Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain looked absolutely beautiful. The overall coloring of her makeup was perfect together with her dress and hair color. She looked ethereal. What makes her makeup stand out from the rest although similar to the below is her distinctive brown ‘cat’ eyeliner. Instead of using black eyeliner around the eyes it is a soft brown. It comes across subtle but effective.

The Natural

The ‘consistent’ look of the evening was a natural one. Brown eyeshadow around the eyes noticeably along the bottom lashline. Peachy-pink on the cheeks while the lipstick shade was close to their natural lip color. This is a ‘playing it safe’ look.  Wearing glamorous gowns together with strong lighting upon them their faces appeared too pale. A more daring makeup would have completed the look.

Hair: The hair was pulled back in a bun but with texture in it and no visible parting. The slightly ‘dishevelled’ look is always a youthful and modern look these days.

The Stronger Eye-makeup Look

With their gowns either pale pink or white these actresses styled it with strong eye makeup balanced with a softer pink lipstick. If they hadn’t gone for this makeup their features would have disappeared. Be aware of not highlighting too much as seen with Zoe Saldana in above picture. It runs the risk of appearing too made up and not blended in well enough.

The Modern Bob

In fashion now and was executed perfectly for the red carpet. Add texture and movement to the bob and part it in a ‘peek-a-boo’ style. For added glam, pin one side of your hair back or wear an orangy red toned lipstick.

Sophisticated Updo

These Oscar winners went for a distinctive tight and sleek side parting updo. Simple but effective and goes well with the dresses.

The Daring Hairstyles

Scarlett Johansoon-  showed off her short haircut including the undercut and although the outfit is debatable, the hairstyle made her look cool and set her apart from the rest.

Dakota Johnson- Ponytails are usually not a very daring hairstyle but considering the event and the dress being so glamorous it gave it a modern twist. Ultimately showing you do not always have to have an elegant updo to go with a gown. Risky choice but suited her perfectly.

Nicole Kidman - Academy Awards
Nicole Kidman – Academy Awards

Nicole Kidman was inspirational on the red carpet. She has never looked better. With the makeup soft with dramatic eyelashes and the ‘modern bob’ hair style (shoulder length blow-dried straight with a curved side parting) all together created a soft young look for her.  This shows that Nicole Kidman should not wear her hair tight back or in any structured hair do. The soft bouncy does wonders for her and so does not having her lips done. What is more, the dress, although perhaps a bit marmite (you either love it or hate it)  with the disco fish scales and red ribbon design it added to her young fun look.
